Today, the 3rd and 4th grade students at Aikin Elementary had the opportunity to participate in a mock election, casting their votes for the President of the United States. This exciting event was orchestrated by Vickie England, the school’s Reading Coach, who transformed into Uncle Sam to guide the young voters through the election process.
To make the experience both educational and engaging, Vickie England created a kid-friendly environment where students learned about the importance of voting. Dressed as Uncle Sam, she explained the voting process in an accessible and entertaining way, ensuring that the students understood how elections work in the real world.
Students participated in the mock election by filling out their ballots, mirroring the process that adult voters follow. They then placed their completed ballots into a ballot box, experiencing firsthand the feeling of contributing to a democratic process. After casting their votes, the students proudly wore their “Future Voter” stickers, symbolizing their participation in the campus election.
Overall, the mock election at Aikin Elementary was a successful educational exercise that not only introduced students to the voting process but also encouraged them to become informed and engaged citizens.
