The holiday season is a little brighter for local seniors, individuals with disabilities, and veterans thanks to Gifts of Love, an annual Christmas program hosted by the Human Resources Council (HRC).
“This is my favorite event every year,” said Shelly Braziel, Executive Director of Human Resources Council, Inc. “Working with the community to get everyone adopted, and then seeing our clients’ faces when they open their gifts, is priceless.”
The program officially launches November 2, inviting members of the community to help make Christmas special for local Meals on Wheels recipients.
Through Gifts of Love, eligible Meals on Wheels clients have the opportunity to sign up to receive Christmas gifts.
Using information provided by each participant, HRC creates individual adoption cards that include details such as the recipient’s age, allergies, pets, and a personal wish list of items they would like or need.
Beginning November 2, community members can visit Paris Coffee Company or South Main Iron to select an adoption card and shop for the individual listed.
There is no obligation to purchase everything on the wish list. Every gift, regardless of size, helps make the holidays a little more special for someone in our community.
After shopping, participants are asked to place their gifts in a Christmas gift bag, attach the adoption card to the outside of the bag, and return the gift to either adoption location. All gifts must be returned no later than December 4.
Those interested in adopting multiple recipients are encouraged to contact HRC directly at 903-784-2580.
For individuals who would like to participate but are unable to shop, monetary donations are also welcome. HRC will use those donations to shop on behalf of recipients who have not yet been adopted. Donations can be made online at hrctexas.org or by mailing a check to:
Human Resources Council, Inc.
P.O. Box 714
Paris, TX 75461
Please write “Gifts of Love” in the memo line of mailed checks.
HRC extends a special thank-you to Paris Coffee Company and South Main Iron for serving as this year’s adoption sites.
Their willingness to partner with the program helps make it possible to connect generous community members with local individuals who could use a little extra joy during the holidays.
