A night of creativity, competition and family fun brought the community together for a Pinewood Derby, with young racers competing for trophies for the fastest cars and best designs.
Participants started with traditional pine wood blocks that could be shaped and customized into virtually any design before being fitted with official Boy Scouts of America wheels and sent down the track.
Trophies were awarded to first, second and third place in two categories — Fastest Car and Best Design.
In the Fastest Car competition, Granger Blanton raced to first place, followed by Sage Prestridge in second and Charlie Toler in third.
For Best Design, Mason Risinger earned first place, Mazie Smith took second and Jake Eatherly finished third.
Organizers thanked everyone who came out to race, cheer on the competitors and enjoy the evening.
“Special thanks were also extended to the Boy Scouts and Dr. James O’Brian for setting up the track, Credit Union of Texas for providing food, and students from the North Lamar High School CTE Automotive Department, BETA Club and National Honor Society for volunteering and helping the event run smoothly.”
The event combined hands-on creativity with friendly competition, giving participants the chance to transform a simple block of pine into a custom race car before putting their creation to the test on the track.
