On July 14, Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1300 block of East Houston Street after observing a vehicle with a defective taillight. Upon making contact with the driver, officers observed signs of intoxication and saw a bag of marijuana in plain view. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol and being in possession of a THC vaporizer. After conducting Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, officers placed the driver under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. A minor passenger was also in the vehicle at the time of the stop, enhancing the offense to Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Under 15 Years of Age, a State Jail Felony. The driver was additionally charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2, Less than One Gram, a State Jail Felony, and Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor.
On July 14, Officers responded to the 1900 block of East Booth Street in reference to a disturbance. During the investigation, officers learned that a female victim alleged she had been assaulted and strangled by her ex-boyfriend. The incident remains under investigation.
During this reporting period, officers conducted 23 traffic stops, made 6 adult arrests, and responded to 72 calls for service.
