Following more than 5 inches of rain in a short time Tuesday morning, with some areas reporting even greater amounts, first responders responded to numerous water rescue calls involving drivers and residents.
This intense downpour, compounding already saturated conditions from heavy rainfall over the past week, led to rapid flash flooding in multiple areas throughout the county.
The rising waters created hazardous conditions for motorists and residents alike, prompting immediate emergency response.
First responders successfully rescued several drivers who became trapped in their vehicles by rapidly rising waters.
Multiple residents of an RV park west of Blossom, a Blossom apartment complex, and several residences in Blossom were safely evacuated due to encroaching floodwaters.
High water forced the emergency closure of numerous County roads, Farm-to-Market (FM) roads, and US highways.
“Despite the severity of the flooding, no serious injuries have been reported at this time,” said the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office. “The swift, organized efforts by our telecommunicators enabled the coordinated response of several county and state resources. We appreciate the emergency personnel whose quick actions kept the community safe. As always, we urge residents to remain vigilant, obey all posted road closure signs, and remember the life-saving rule: Turn around, don’t drown.”
