Douglas Wayne Cox, age 73, passed away on June 11th, 2026 in Paris, Texas.
He was born September 10, 1952, to Jasper “Junior” and Jewell Franklin Cox, in Pryor, Oklahoma.
Doug grew up in the Iron Post Community, southeast of Locust Grove, and graduated in 1970 from Locust Grove High School.
Doug joined the Army after graduation, training in the Explosive Ordinance division. He spent many years detecting, defusing and co-coordinating safety sweeps. He traveled extensively throughout Europe during his Army service and retired as a Warrant Officer 2.
Doug enjoyed life and was always interested in learning new skills and knowledge. He enjoyed teaching at the Paris Junior College as a jewelry instructor/lab facilitator. Doug mastered many aspects of jewelry design and metallurgy. He also worked in air-conditioner mechanics.
He was a member of the Watch and Clock Association, the East Texas Gem and Mineral Society, International Wood Collectors Society. He was an open water diver, a master gardener, member of Mensa and many other societies and associations. He also served on the Paris Historical and Preservation Council.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Jewell Cox and brother, Gary Cox.
He is survived by his four children, April Dawn Cox, Gloria Talbott and husband, Jason, Crystal Kazama and husband, Kosei and Ben Cox; grandchildren, Syris Norelli, Shohei Kazama, Melody Roldan, Harmony Rangel, Kiyomi Kazama ,Yuri Kazama, Asuka Kazama, Elizabeth Cox; sister, Mary Etta Jafek and her husband, David.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM at McClain Cemetery in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.
