James Michael “Mike” Gordon, 75, of Minter, TX passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at his home. He was lovingly known as “Cooter” by his firehouse family.
Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 30th at the Pavilion of Union Cemetery at Taylortown with Pastor Donnie Sherrill officiating.
Mike, the son of James H. Gordon and Dorris Hefner Gordon, was born Feb. 20, 1951, in Ft. Worth, TX. He graduated from Cunningham High School and was immediately drafted into the United States Army where he faithfully served from 1971 1973. During his senior year at Cunningham, Mike worked at Campbell Soup Company, and upon his honorable discharge from the military his job was waiting on him. In 1974, he began a career with the Paris Fire Department which spanned 30 years before his retirement in 2004. Mike enjoyed cattle ranching, farming, hay baling and could work on anything. He was a Christian man and a member of Abundant Life Church in Minter, where he loved everyone and helped people in any way he could. He was a lifelong member of the community and helping others was a huge part of his life. Mike loved his firehouse friends and all ragged on his cooking. He had a servants heart and was a “Fireman’s Fireman”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Dorris Gordon, a son, Joshua Gordon, a brother, David “Kim” Gordon, and two sisters, Carol Carroll and Sharon Lay. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Audrey Conley Gordon, two children, Amanda (Mandy Gordon) Moore and fiancé Dennis Renfro and James Duncan Gordon and wife Shawn, grandchildren, Ethan Moore and wife Blakely, Annie Moore, Reese Gordon, and Tatum Segovia, great grandchildren, Taylor Moore, Tayton Segovia, and Kopelyn Segovia and several nieces and nephews along with a host of friends.
Casket bearers will be: Lawrence Malone, Sammy Archer, Rodger Edelhauser, Stanley Johnson, Doug Moreland, and Billy Hargis. Honorary bearers will be: James Johnson, David Stewart and all Mike’s fireman friends and family.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers that loved Papa through this journey. Thank you to our church family and friends for all your prayers, love, and food. This all means the world to us.
