On Saturday, February 28, student artists from across Region 8 gathered at Chisum High School for the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE). The regional event featured 295 pieces of student artwork submitted by talented artists from schools throughout the area.
North Lamar High School had an impressive showing, bringing home 28 medals across multiple art categories. Even more exciting, two North Lamar students have advanced to the State VASE competition, where their work will be judged among the top high school artists in Texas.
Evie Greer will advance with her acrylic painting, Cameo, and Anna Raymond will move on to State with her mixed media piece, Fear of Aging. Both students will represent North Lamar at the State VASE competition in April.
VASE is a unique event because it’s not just about submitting artwork. Students also meet with judges to talk about their work, their creative process, and the techniques they used. It’s an opportunity for young artists to share their voice, defend their ideas, and grow as creators.
“I am incredibly proud of every student who participated,” said North Lamar High School art teacher Brandi Peel. “Their hard work, creativity, and dedication truly showed at this event. It is such an honor to work with these amazingly talented young ladies and young men, and I am thrilled to see their accomplishments recognized at the regional level.”
Events like VASE give students the chance to step outside the classroom, showcase their talent, and connect with a larger community of artists.
North Lamar ISD celebrates the success of these students and looks forward to cheering on Evie and Anna as they represent Panther Nation at the Texas State VASE competition this spring.
