The Honey Grove Volunteer Fire Department has been made aware of public concern regarding our absence from a medical call on the morning of Saturday, January 31, in the 500 block of Pecan Street.
On that morning, a 911 call was placed to the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office reporting a medical emergency. The Fannin County Dispatch Center notified the Honey Grove Police Department and Allegiance EMS. Both agencies responded, and Allegiance EMS ultimately transported one patient from the scene.
During the initial intake of the 911 call, a decision was made by the dispatcher not to notify the Honey Grove Volunteer Fire Department. This decision was contrary to established dispatch protocol and resulted in the EMS crew operating on scene without fire department support. Allegiance EMS crews serving Fannin County rely on local volunteer fire departments for assistance and backup on medical calls. Had there been multiple patients, the EMS crew would not have had adequate personnel to safely render care.
The Fire Chief and officers of the department have been in direct contact with the Fannin County Dispatch Supervisor and the Fannin County Sheriff to address this matter and to ensure that the Honey Grove Volunteer Fire Department receives all requests for assistance within its jurisdiction moving forward. Our department relies solely on the Fannin County Dispatch Center for emergency notifications, and it is critical that these communications occur without failure.
The Honey Grove Volunteer Fire Department is composed of dedicated men and women who selflessly volunteer their time and expertise to serve the community, with over half of our members being career first responders. The department remains committed to providing professional, timely, and compassionate service to the citizens of Honey Grove.
