Clara Mae Cogburn, age 93, of Detroit, TX passed away on January 22, 2026. Clara was born December 3, 1932, to Jack E. Wright and Lois Self in Birthright, Texas. She was one of seven children with three surviving: Billy Wright and Syble Murphy of Detroit, TX and Sherry Web of Forney, TX.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Benny Cogburn, Sr. of Detroit, her son Benny Cogburn, Jr. and wife Annett of Longview, TX. She is also survived by five granddaughters and their spouses: Mr. and Mrs. Tommy (Crystal) Roberts; Mr. and Mrs. John (Alecia) Dunaway; Mr. and Mrs. Orlando (Erica) Orozco; Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Kristen) Hackler; Mr. and Mrs. Kurtis (Carla) Dobbs. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren.
Clara was preceded in death by her son Glen Cogburn, both her parents, her brothers Troy and Dewayne Wright and her sister Barbara Hickman.
Being a resident of Detroit all of her adult life, Clara was known for her smile and her genuine care in greeting people. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ serving alongside her husband as a minister’s wife for 59 years. After several business ventures in her early life, Clara returned to college in 1975 and pursued her degree in education. She taught many years in Detroit ISD sharing her love of teaching with generations of children.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Bro. Benny Cogburn, Sr. and Rick McFadden officiating. Burial will be made in Youngs Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
