North Lamar ISD families came together for the district’s Third Annual Night of Family Literacy, a community-wide celebration designed to promote a love of reading and strengthen connections between students, families, and schools.
North Lamar football players, volleyball players, and cheerleaders filled the facility with Panther spirit as they read stories aloud, signed autographs, and spent time with young Panthers and Pantherettes. Each child in attendance received a free book and had the opportunity to enjoy one-on-one reading time with their favorite student-athletes—creating lasting memories and encouraging a lifelong passion for literacy.
The district’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Department also joined in the evening, providing Spanish-language children’s books to help ensure that every Panther family had access to engaging stories in their home language.
Families wrapped up the evening by walking through the iconic Panther head to the outdoor area, where Credit Union of Texas provided free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and drinks from their food truck.
“Seeing our students connect with our athletes and older role models through reading is what makes this event so special,” said Melissa Allen, Director of Parent and Family Engagement. “When families and schools come together around literacy—whether in English or Spanish—it shows that reading truly unites us all.”
The annual event continues to showcase North Lamar ISD’s commitment to family engagement, academic success, and literacy for all, aligning with the district’s mission to create a community where students learn, grow, and belong.
