Paris Junior College is pleased to announce that Pyro’s Market, a vital campus resource offering free basic needs support to students, has relocated to a new and larger space in the Learning Resource Center, Room 92.
The new space allows Pyro’s Market to expand its services and offers a more welcoming environment for students in need. “The aim,” said Carey Gable, Director of PJC Cares, “is to create a welcoming experience for students anytime they need the market.”
With this move, the market has also extended its hours to Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., giving students greater access throughout the week.
“Student success starts with meeting basic needs,” Gable added. “When students have access to essentials, they’re more likely to stay in class, complete their programs, and achieve their academic goals.”
Pyro’s Market offers a variety of food, hygiene products, toiletries, and a limited selection of professional clothing, all provided free of charge to PJC students. The market’s growth has been supported by partnerships with Kimberly-Clark, Campbell’s, and numerous student organizations, as well as proceeds from the 100th Anniversary PJC Gala, which have significantly contributed to the expansion.
Community support remains crucial to the market’s success. Donations of toiletries and hygiene products are especially needed, including:
· Toilet paper
· Deodorant
· Shampoo
· Soap
· Laundry detergent
· Toothpaste
“Every contribution directly impacts our students,” Gable emphasized. “Your support helps them stay in school, succeed academically, and build brighter futures.”
