Students at Aaron Parker Elementary recently brought literature to life by building lean-tos as part of their study of the novel Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.
As they read about the main character’s survival in the wilderness, students stepped into his shoes by creating their own miniature lean-to shelters, combining creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning.
The activity helped deepen their understanding of the challenges faced in the story while encouraging critical thinking and teamwork.
