Looking to get involved in local politics? The 2018 Election for the Paris City Council is happening in May and applications are now open. The deadline to run for City Council is February 16th.

 

Qualifications for Election to the Council:

 

  • Shall be at least 18 years of age or older;
  • Must be a citizen of the United States;
  • Must be a resident of the State of Texas for 12 months as of the deadline for filing for office;
  • Must be a bona fide resident of the district in which he/she election for 12 months as of the deadline for filing for office; and
  • Shall not have been convicted of a felony, been adjudged to be mentally incompetent by a Court, or be disqualified by reason of any provision of any other section of this Charter or Chapter 141 of the Texas Election Code

As of Wednesday, Feb. 7th, these are the members running in the 2018 City Council Election:

 

District 1: Shandra Renae Stone; The Incumbent Aaron Jenkins is term limited and will not be running again.

 

District 2: Don McKnight, Derrick Hughes, Ed Darnell; The Incumbent Sue Lancaster is term limited and will not be running again.

 

District 3: Billy Trenado, Jane Helberg; The Incumbent Billy Trenado is seeking reelection.

 

District 6: Cleonne Drake, Clayton Pilgrim; The Incumbent Cleonne Drake is seeking reelection.
