As it’s still uncertain who is president-elect for the United States, Presidential Nominee Joe Biden’s coronavirus advisor Dr. Michael Osterholm suggested shutting down businesses for four to six weeks.
“What America has to understand is that we are about to enter Covid hell,” Osterholm told CNBC in reference to the increase in COVID cases nationwide.
Biden previously said he would “do everything possible to get COVID-19 under control.” He even told ABC, “I would shut it (U.S.) down.”
Osterholm said the nationwide lockdown could drive new cases and hospitalization numbers down as the world waits for a vaccine.
He said if “we … pay for a package right now to cover all of the wages” – which includes lost individual worker wages, small company to medium-sized companies, city, state, county government losses – the country could be locked down for four to six weeks. It’s unclear who Osterholm is referring to when he said, “we.”
