A body found in the north eastern part of Lamar County is believed to be missing Powderly man Justin Hughes.
Sheriff Scott Cass said the sheriffs office was contact by a resident on Sept. 7 regarding human remains that he found on his property near CR 45300.
“Sheriff Detectives arriving on scene were told by the land owner, that while some family members were hunting on his property this morning, they located human skeletal remains,” said Cass.
Sheriff Detectives, along with Texas Ranger Stacy McNeal, recovered the human remains.
“The remains are believed to be of Justin Hughes, a Powderly man who was last seen on August 21, 2020.”
The remains were sent to the medical examiner for positive identification.
Investigation is still continuing at this time.
