The Sam Bell Maxey House, a State Historic Site in Paris, is celebrating Texas Archeology Month on Oct. 8, featuring free activities for kids from 3-4 p.m.
Activities set for this Saturday at the Sam Bell Maxey House include:
- Mini Dig: How do archeologists find what objects ancient humans left behind? In this hands-on activity, participants will investigate a mini “archaeological site” in a shoebox to carefully excavate the site and record artifacts they find
- Flint Sorting: Participants will identify different flint tools used by prehistoric people. What was each type of flint used for?
- Maxey House Artifact Matching Game: Match photos of actual Maxey House archeology artifacts!
- Pinch Pots: This is an archeology activity classic! Go home with your very own pot made at the Maxey House
