Late Thursday afternoon, a juvenile suspect was taken into custody in regard to a fake pipe bomb that was discovered at the Greenville High School.
“This has been a very long day, and we are grateful to the eight law enforcement agencies for their diligent work,” school officials said. “We are also grateful to all the GISD staff members and parents who came together to ensure that our students were safely evacuated and transported home. The information that several students provided to investigators enabled a swift investigation. Again, this reinforces our belief that when you see something, it’s important to say something.”
Greenville High School remains closed today, and the floor show and other events scheduled on campus Friday will be canceled or rescheduled. Originally scheduled end-of-course tests will be rescheduled to Wednesday, May 11.
Counselors will be available to staff and students when Greenville High School reopens on Monday.
“As the day comes to a close, we are thankful for our safety and for the efforts of so many in protecting our GISD family,” officials said Thursday afternoon.
Agencies who assisted the district included Greenville ISD PD, Greenville PD and FD, Hunt County SO, Garland PD, Frisco FD, Texas Rangers and the DFW Bomb Unit.
