Greenville High School was evacuated shortly after a suspicious object resembling a pipe bomb was found in the school’s bathroom.
Greenville Police Department, Fire and Hunt County Sheriff’s Office are on scene, and Plano and Garland Police Departments sent bomb units to the school. The building will be swept by Garland Police Department.
“We appreciate all the law enforcement agencies for their swift response and commitment to public safety,” the district said.
All Greenville High School activities have been canceled for the day.
“Student and staff safety is always a top priority in GISD, and we are writing to let you know about an incident that occurred today at Greenville High School,” the district shared. “This morning, a suspicious item was found on campus. In an abundance of caution, the high school is being evacuated and a sweep of the entire campus will be conducted.”
The district said the only students on campus were juniors, scheduled for end-of-course exams, alongside a few others. The district expected the remaining student body to arrive at 2 p.m., but are no longer expected to come as the campus will be closed the remainder of the day.
The arrangements for student pickup are as follows:
- Students who drove will drive home
- Students who rode the bus will be transported home
- Parents can pick up their student(s)
- If other arrangements are needed, please contact the high school at 903-457-2526.
