Paris ISD Sweeps Lamar Soil and Water Conservation District Poster and Essay Contest

For the third year in a row, Paris ISD students swept the annual Lamar County Soil and Water Conservation District (LSWCD) Poster and Essay Contest.  This year’s theme was “Healthy Soils are Full of Life.”  

LSWCD president David Basinger and vice president Mike Parsons presented checks to the winners.  Winning essays and posters have advanced to the regional level.

In the essay contest, Paris High School seniors Garrett Wilson and Gabe Allen won 1st and 2nd place respectively (ages 14-18 division) and received $150 and $80. Paris Junior High School 7th grader Sophia Hamer won 1st (ages 13 and under division) and received $80.

In the poster contest, Justiss 4th grader Bernie Rodriguez won 1st place, Crockett 5th grader Nicole Octavio won 2nd, and Justiss 4th grader Zykerian Richardson won 3rd in the 44th-6th-grade contest.  They received $80, $50, and $30 respectively. Cylee Wherly, Meliza Lopez, and Jaheim Lodrigue (Justiss 3rd graders) were chosen as the first, second, and third place winners of the 1st-3rd grade contest.  They received $50, $30, and $20 respectively.
