Novice Volunteer Fire Department is gearing up for what’s typically its largest fundraiser of the year – the chili and stew supper.
“We depend on fundraisers for our day-to-day operations, training, and responding to emergencies in the surrounding area,” Novice VFD Chief Chris Shoemate said. “Not only do we respond to calls in Lamar County, but we also respond to calls in Northwest Red River County due to our proximity to that area.”
Alongside its famous stew, the fire department will serve its traditional chili – mild, medium and hot – with “all the fixings to make it your own.”
The fire department will sell raffle tickets for the chance to win a Ruger 6.5 Creedmore bolt action rifle with a Sig Sauer Scope at $1 a piece or $5 for six tickets. The drawing will be at about 8 p.m.
“Novice VFD is sincerely grateful to all our donors and appreciates all the support over the years,” Shoemate said.
Novice VFD’s chili and stew supper will be at Novice Volunteer Fire Department’s fire station, 13834 Farm Rd. 195, on Nov. 5 from noon to 8 p.m.
Prices for a plate are:
- $8 for ages 11 and up;
- $4 for ages 4 to 10; and
- free for those under 4 years of age.
