The University Interscholastic League (UIL) will consider several proposed rule changes at its upcoming meeting in mid-June including a proposal to “prohibit freshman athletes from participating in varsity competitions.”
Items on the agenda that has many parents taking to social media to share their thoughts were ‘Written Proposals from the Public.’
Along with the proposed change of freshman participating in varsity competitions, the UIL Standing Committee on Athletics’ also will consider other items, including, but not limited to:
- Proposals to change soccer from a spring sport to fall sport
- Proposal to add a shot clock
- Proposal to limit or eliminate scratching of officials by coaches
The committee will also consider proposals from Staff Study/Reports and Staff Proposals including:
- Proposal to allow 6th grade participation at the 1A level
- Proposal to increase travel reimbursements for sports officials by $5.00 beginning in the 2022-2023 school year
- Proposal to establish a ten-year compensation plan for sports officials
