NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test spacecraft is expected to crash into an asteroid tonight at 6:14 p.m., according to the space administration.
The DART mission launched its spacecraft into orbit last year, and it’s expected to make impact with Dimorphos, a small asteroid, which is the moon of a larger space rock, Didymos.
According to reports, these two near-Earth objects pose no threat to our planet. The space administration says the DART mission is to test a technique which would be used for planetary defense in the future.
The DART will crash into Dimorphos at about 14,000 miles per hour at 6:14 p.m. this evening. To view coverage of the end of the mission beginning at 5 p.m. here, at NASA Television.
