Mary Ruth Holmes, 94, of Powderly, passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Stillhouse Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services, with military honors, for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7th, at Meadowbrook Gardens with Rev. Ken Cannon officiating. A formal visitation will not be scheduled, however, those wishing may pay their respects at the funeral home.

Mrs. Holmes, the daughter of Luther & Eula Skidmore Dotson, was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Biardstown.

She served with the United Sates Navy WAVE (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) in California during World War II.

Mary was a member of First Baptist Church in Paris where she worked with Mother’s Day Out for more than twenty years.

In 1947, she married Vernon Van Dyke Holmes, building fifty-six years of family and memories before his death on Nov. 11, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Billy Jack Dotson and a sister, Kathleen Fulfer.

Survivors include three children; Karon Holmes & husband Stanley of Winnsboro, Connie Fitzgerald & husband Eddie of Paris and Ronnie Holmes & wife Karen of Paris, grandchildren; Chad Holmes & wife Angie of Belleview, WA, Justin Holmes & wife Sarah of Ft. Worth, Chandra Stephens & husband Matt of Argyle, Billy Fitzgerald of Paris, Launa Doyal & husband Matt of Paris, Dean Holmes & wife Carmen of Paris and Stephanie Easton & husband Kyle of Paris, fourteen great grandchildren along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
