Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop pays its respects to officers who lost their lives on this day in 2016 when they were ambushed in Dallas, Texas.
“Today and always, we remember the five officers who lost their lives in that horrific attack five years ago,” Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop President Amanda Willows said.
The five officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice on July 7, 2016:
- Dallas Police Officer Patricio “Patrick” Zamarripa, 33. He served eight years in active-duty with the U.S. Navy and five years in the reserves. Zamarripa served on the police force for six years. He left behind his wife, Kristy, and daughter, Lyncoln Rae. July 7, 2016, EOW
- Dallas Police Senior Corporal Lorne Ahrens, 48, a longtime member of the police force. He served 10 years with the Los Angeles Police Department and joined Dallas PD in 2002. He left behind his wife, Katrina, and children, Sorcha and Magnus. July 7, 2016, EOW
- Dallas Police Officer Michael Krol, 40. Krol served on the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in Detroit, Michigan, before serving eight years with Dallas PD. He left behind several friends and family. July 7, 2016, EOW
- Dallas Police Sergeant Michael Smith, 55. Smith served in the U.S. Army as a U.S. Army Ranger. He served with Dallas PD for 27 years and left behind his wife, Heidi, and daughters, Victoria and Caroline. July 7, 2016, EOW
- Dallas Area Rapid Transit Officer Brent Thompson, 43. Prior to joining the Corsicana PD then Dallas PD, Thompson served in the Marine Corps. He left behind his wife, Emily, and several friends and family. July 7, 2016, EOW
“Rest in peace, gentlemen, and thank you for your service,” Willows said.
After this tragic day, Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop was created to ensure local law enforcement officers were provided vests and needed safety equipment, “to help keep them safe.”
