Following an impressive showing in a home loss to Prairiland, the Chisum Lady Mustangs volleyball team began the second half of its district schedule with a game at Commerce on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the Lady Mustangs were unable to earn their second win in district play. Chisum lost at Commerce in three sets by a final score of 24-26, 23-25, and 14-25.
Similar to the Prairiland match, Chisum lost the match in straight sets, but not without putting up a strong challenge early. The Lady Mustangs dropped the first two sets to Prairiland by single digits, but this game saw the margin between the first two sets grow much closer. Prairiland took down Chisum by 12 total points in the first two sets, while Commerce edged Chisum by just four total points in the first two sets.
When Chisum lost at Commerce, it marked the fifth straight win in the series for the Lady Tigers since the teams became district foes. The Lady Mustangs have now lost two straight games following a sweep at Lone Oak.
Senior setter Kelsea Ball led Chisum with 11 assists, 10 digs, and 3 aces, while freshman Emma Garner had 3 kills, 2 digs, and 4 blocks. Junior outside hitter Emmy Williams had 4 kills, 6 digs, 1 block, and 1 ace, while senior middle blocker Chloe Prestridge added 5 kills, 2 digs, and 1 block. Sophomore outside hitter Peyton Holland recorded 4 kills, 6 digs, and 8 aces, while sophomore setter Carly Bell finished with 7 assists and 9 digs. Zoe England chipped in with 3 kills.
