Final Lake Watershed Planning Meetings Prepare Plan for Use
This December NTMWD will be finalizing the Bois d’Arc Lake watershed protection plan in coordination with local stakeholders. The plan addresses potential threats to Bois d’Arc Lake’s water quality and provides voluntary recommendations for protecting its watershed (all land that rainfall flows over on its way to the lake).
NTMWD held public meetings since last summer as part of the collaborative and transparent process to develop the watershed protection plan. Meeting stakeholders represent a cross section of the community, and they have played a central role in shaping the plan. November’s meeting discussed and provided input on strategies to reduce pollution, including feral hog control and reducing pollutants from urban and rural sources.
Meeting participants will consider and approve the draft plan at the last meeting in Bonham, on December 8. The draft plan will be posted on the lake website for public review and comment. Once finalized and accepted by EPA, the plan’s voluntary measures will be eligible for grant funding. The goal is to secure this funding and start implementing key measures next spring.
