UT Health East Texas lost one of their own Wednesday night after its EMS ambulance struck a tractor-trailer on US 69 North of Greenville, near County Road 1071.
Traveling southbound, according to DPS Trooper Kyle Bradford, the ambulance was unable to stop as the tractor-trailer was backing out of a private road onto US Highway 69 at about 6:55 p.m.
“We are devastated by the loss of one of our team members who was involved in a two-vehicle accident while on duty Wednesday night. Another crew member was also injured,” UT Health East Texas said in a released statement. “Our thoughts are with the team member’s family and friends. Our prayers are also with the injured crew member who is being treated.”
According to officials, the Paramedic died on the scene, while the other in serious but stable condition was taken from the crash site in a medevac helicopter to a Tyler hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
