District action heats up for local sports teams on the gridiron and the hardwood. Pivotal district games in both football and volleyball will take place with plenty on the line. There will be several key games happening Friday night. All varsity volleyball games will begin at 4:30 p.m. while each football game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
RRV football
Even though the Paris Wildcats are no longer sidelined by COVID-19. The Wildcats will face Ranchview at Stanridge Stadium in Carrollton. District action heats up on the gridiron for other schools as well. The North Lamar Panthers, who already overcame their own pandemic-related obstacles, begin their district slate at R.L. Maddox Stadium. North Lamar will celebrate its homecoming night with league foe Liberty-Eylau coming to town.
In Class 3A, both the Chisum Mustangs and Prairiland Patriots face tough district opponents in their respective games. The Mustangs, who defeated Prairiland and Redwater in their last two district outings, will host Paul Pewitt. The Brahmas reached the state championship game last year and are a favorite to win the district this year.
The Patriots will also face a formidable foe in Daingerfield. The Tigers, a traditional football power in Texas, are coming off a deep playoff run of their own. The Tigers were clipped by the Brahmas 45-42 in the regional semifinals a season ago. Daingerfield is another team hoping to win the district and will host the Patriots on Friday night. Prairiland seeks its first win in district play.
Local volleyball
On the hardwood, district action heats up with crucial matchups both in and out of Lamar County. The Paris Lady Wildcats, who have lost three of four district home games, look to turn their fortunes around. The Lady ’Cats recently lost at home to North Lamar and Pleasant Grove. Their first district home game was a five-set loss to Gilmer. On Friday, the Lady Buckeyes will host Paris as the teams will have a rematch from their previous match at Wildcat Gymnasium.
Meanwhile, the North Lamar Pantherettes seem to be finding their groove at the right time. The Pantherettes scored a huge win in straight sets at Paris their last time on the court. Now, North Lamar aims to win its third district contest at home against Liberty-Eylau.
In other local volleyball action, the Prairiland Lady Patriots continue their season-ending homestand with another game in Pattonville. The Lady Patriots have won all nine of their district games thus far. Along with that, Prairiland did not drop a set in six of those wins. The Lady Pats look to secure their 10th district win against Commerce. The Chisum Lady Mustangs are idle but will play again at 6 p.m. Tuesday at home against Grand Saline.
