Looking at Christmas lights Christmas Eve night is a tradition for most families, and with the right volunteers, Lamar County could have its own map showcasing all the lighted houses next year.
With Reno as the only area in Lamar County this time of the year with a Christmas decorating and lights contest, Amanda Willows, who has been influential in Reno’s Annual ’Twas the Lights Before Christmas, is hopes to find five volunteers to help judge a countywide Christmas decorating and lights contest for 2023.
“It is so awesome to see the displays in our city and the amount of people that come to see them,” Willows said. “The idea came to me when I had so many messages from friends and relatives from other areas, including other states – Oklahoma and Arkansas – asking for the addresses to our local light displays. Naturally I told them about the AMAZING lights in Reno, but we have so many incredible displays in other areas of the county, as well!”
Willows said a countywide contest with a tour map would give those around the county the recognition they deserve, plus give all the citizens a fun, family-friendly activity during the Christmas season.
“Some of my most favorite childhood memories are the many times we drove around just to look at Christmas lights with my parents and sisters,” Willows said.
For such a large sized competition, Willows said they will need at least five judges. For more information, contact Willows at 903-732-7860 or email aawillows@gmail.com.
