A tornado ripped through Lamar County late Friday afternoon, leaving a path of destruction behind it. Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported. The Lamar County community has jumped into action, setting up donation sites and places to go to help those affected by the storms.

Powderly Dairy Queen is providing free meals and drinks for emergency responders to the area all day Saturday 11/5 and Sunday 11/6.
Paris Chevrolet Buick GMC is set up at Titan Transportation at the corner of FM 1499 and 271 with SAM Roofing and Construction providing fresh coffee and will cook breakfast and lunch. - Paris Apothecary is open providing aid to any affected by the storm.
- Plex Roofing says they will happily provide skidsteers, excavators, dump trailers, chainsaw, or any equipment or tools they have available free of charge.
- First Federal Community Bank will be delivering pizza and drinks to the Powderly and Caviness VFDs at lunchtime today (Nov. 5). All first responders and families affected by the storms are welcome.
- Gospel Lighthouse PCG will serve food around lunchtime today (Nov. 5). Chili, spaghetti, and Chic Fil A is providing sandwiches as well. They will be set up at Dollar General’s parking lot in Powderly.
- Lamar Ave. Church of Christ has set up an emergency shelter for those that have been affected by the storm;
- Downtown Food Pantry is ready to provide free groceries to any storm-displaced family.
- Cycle Works Paris shared they are ready to help provide shelter for those in need
- CitySquare Paris will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. to provide clothing to those in need. CitySquare said they are accepting donations of jeans, tennis shoes, underwear, socks and athletic-wear.
- Lamar Point Baptist Church says they will help however necessary.
- Rocket Raceway Park will serve burgers and hot dogs to first responders, volunteers or any of the families starting at 11 a.m. They are also taking donations of blankets, clothing, etc. They will be located under the awning of the big building in front of the racetrack.
