On Monday, Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park encouraged citizens to “use their second amendment” while warning there has been a slight increase in homicides and an home invasion in south Hugo.
“In southeast Oklahoma, there seems to be a slight increase in homicides and a home invasion south of Hugo,” said Park on his Facebook page. “I encourage one to use their second amendment. Know how to use your firearm.”
Park said his intention is “not to cause one to panic” but for citizens to pay attention at home and always know their surroundings while out and about.
Park specified the homicides and home invasions have been near the old Paris Highway and Golf Course Road. He also stated homicides and home invasions had been reported in neighboring counties, including Lamar and Fannin County.
“The home invasion was two miles south of Hugo, one homicide was west of Fort Towson at Tommys Bar and the double homicide was north of Sawyer on county road 2000.”
For those who don’t have their License to Carry, Park said they could pick up an application at the Sheriff’s Office at the courthouse.
“Put up surveillance cameras, extra lighting outside, install security systems in your home.”
