UPDATE: Name released in suspicious death investigation in Lamar County

A man’s name has been released in a suspicious death investigation underway in Lamar County.

He is identified as Tony Lee Copeland, 61, of Sumner, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office says.

Funeral services will be held at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018.

ORIGINAL STORY

On Thursday afternoon, May 24th, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 5:22 p.m.

The caller stated that a male subject was found in a residence in the northwest portion of Lamar County with a possible gunshot wound to the head.

Lamar County Deputies and first responders arrived on the scene and found the male subject deceased inside the residence.

Sherrif Detectives, along with Ranger Stacey McNeal are working the unattended death and the decedent has been sent for autopsy by Justice of the Peace Tim Risinger.

The investigation is ongoing and the name is not being released at this time due to family notifications.
