Southwest Airlines had a couple say their vows in front of an airline cab filled with guests after their flight to Vegas was canceled.
On April 24, Pam and Jeremy Salad planned to jump on a plane and get married in Vegas, and booked an appointment for his past Sunday at a Vegas wedding chapel.
When the Oklahoma City couple arrived to DFW from OKC, the two learned their connection to LAS was canceled. Chris, another passenger headed to LAS from DFW who is also an ordained minister, overheard the couple talking about how they could still make their Vegas appointment and offered to marry them himself.
The three took to the internet and grabbed the last three seats to Vegas on a Southwest flight, and hurried together across town to Dallas Love Field.
“It’s like something that you’d see in a movie … I’ve got flowers in this hand, train of my dress in this hand, I’m running through security, he’s got both bags,” Pam told The Oklahoman. “I wish I could see the footage from the airport, it’s got to be funny.”
As they boarded the flight, their Pilot, Captain Gil, asked Pam about her wedding dress – Pam and Jeremy were in full wedding attire, just for fun. Pam explained their story and joked with Captain Gil they should just get married on the flight. For the second time that week, Pam was surprised to hear the words, “Let’s do it!”
Southwest Airline’s Flight Crew sprung into action with toilet paper streamers and a snack mix sash for Chris. Julie, one of the Flight Attendants, stood in as Pam’s Maid of Honor. A professional photographer on the flight pulled out her camera for official wedding photos. Another Passenger passed around an old notebook for the whole cabin to sign with well wishes and their seat numbers, which was given to the bride and groom as a makeshift guestbook.
Congrats to the newlyweds on a memorable inflight wedding neither the Employees nor Passengers are likely to forget!
“We can’t wait to welcome you back on board the love airline.”
