With no rain in the forecast over the weekend, the Texas A&M-Forest Service is projecting an increase in fire danger over the weekend. The National Weather Service said highs will be in the 80s to 90s by Monday with breezy south/southwesterly winds in place, leading to a potential for fire starts and rapid spread, especially on Sunday.

Today, the Forest Service is projecting a “Moderate” fire danger level, which means fires can start from most accidental causes, but the number of fire starts is usually low.
If a fire does start in open, dry grassland, it will burn and spread quickly on windy days. Most wood fires will spread slowly to moderately.
Saturday and Sunday, however, the Forest Service is forecasting a “High” fire danger level, which means fires could start easily from most causes, and small fuels (such as grasses and needles) will ignite readily.
Unattended campfires and brush fires are likely to escape. Fires will spread easily, with some areas of high-intensity burning on slopes or concentrated fuels. Fires can become serious and difficult to control unless they are put out while they are still small.
Any observed grass fires should be immediately reported to local authorities.
