As of today, Americans can apply for $50 off their internet bill as part of an emergency government program to ensure people continue to stay connected during the pandemic.
The program stems from December’s $900 billion pandemic relief package. The federal government has increased its spending on broadband while the pandemic made it aware that millions of Americans were without, or could not afford internet access while jobs, schools and healthcare moved toward an internet-centric area.
Households are eligible if they receive food stamps, have a child in the school’s free or reduced-price lunch program, use medicaid, or lost income during the pandemic and mode less than $99,000 for single-filing households, or $198,000 for joint-filing households.

The discount could potentially cover a household’s entire internet bill, or be partially covered.
