Bonham Chief of Police Mike Bankston released more information regarding the officer-involved shooting Saturday night.

Just after 8 p.m. Saturday night, Bonham Police Officers were assistant Fannin County Sheriffs Deputies with executing a narcotics search warrant at a residence in Bonham.

Bankston said a vehicle leaving the area in a reckless manner drew the officers attention with resulted in a Bonham PD Officer attempting to make a traffic stop, however, the driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.

“The pursuit lasted about two miles before the driver pulled into his place of residence on Spur 311 in Bonham,” said Bankston. “Two Bonham Officers conducted a felony traffic stop and ordered the driver out of the vehicle.”

The driver was given verbal commands to keep his hands in the air.

“The officers continued to give verbal commands to the driver to keep his hands in the air, but the driver ignored these commands and made a furtive movement, resulting in an officer discharging their handgun, striking the driver multiple times.”

The driver was immediately given medical aid by the Officers before being airlifted to a hospital in Plano.

The Texas Rangers were requested to conduct an investigation into the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
