United Way of Lamar County opened registration for its fall fundraiser, which will be a virtual 5K race.
“Join us for a Virtual 5K to kick off our Fall campaign! Design your own t-shirt, race bib, and even medals. Walk or run a 5K anytime,” the organization said in a statement.
United Way said anyone can join the virtual race and move at their own pace. Participants can partake in the virtual event any time between Tuesday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 14.
“We are asking for a donation instead of a registration fee. Maybe $20.20 to commemorate the year 2020, or how about $19.00 for COVID-19? The amount is up to you! But remember, your donation will go towards our Fall Campaign goal of $500,000 to fund our 22 partner agencies in 2021,” the organization said.
Participation in the event is aimed to help people affected by COVID-19, but anyone who does not want to take part in the virtual 5K can show support through donations.
