On Saturday afternoon, two Texas A&M-Commerce football student-athletes were robbed and shot at gunpoint in the Miami, Florida area while on Spring vacation.

According to multiple sources, the two players were identified as Jay Bias and Xavier Morris.

Former Lion football coach Colby Carthel tweeted about the incident Sunday afternoon naming the players involved.

“Please lift up prayers for Jay Bias and Xavier Morris, two former players of mine who were needlessly robbed and shot while on Spring Break. They’re two fantastic young men, who sure didn’t deserve this senseless act…#LionStrong.”

Head Football Coach David Bailiff and Director of Athletics Tim McMurray flew to Florida Saturday to be with the students and their families.

According to the Herald Banner, a statement from the department says that both of the student athletes are currently being treated at a Miami-area hospital. They are reportedly in stable condition, with Morris needing more surgery.

Texas A&M-Commerce Athletics department said, “The University and Intercollegiate Athletics extend our thoughts and prayers to both young men and their families.”
