Early Sunday morning, three local men who have been noodling on Pat Mayse Lake for almost three years pulled up an 84lbs flathead catfish; unofficially breaking the record.

It didn’t take long for Ty Eppler, Jonathan Williams and Justin Evans to pull up the monster once it latched on.

“We’ve all been doing this for a long time so we knew it was big straight away,” said Ty. “We fought him for a few minutes but got him up quickly once he latched on”

Currently, the official record for a flathead catfish on Pat Mayse Lake is 73lbs according to Brannon’s Bass Shop and once all the official paperwork is filed, the boys will hold the record.

However, they plan on releasing the catfish once they’ve officially weighed him.

“We’re going to turn the fish back and let someone else try beat out record.”
