Terroristic threat, drug-related arrests and more reported over the weekend

Around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday night, Paris Police Officers responded to a disturbance in the 2100 block of E. Cherry St. where they contacted 18-year-old Michael Gaines.

“Gaines was causing a disturbance and was armed with a club,” said Captain Terry Bulls.

Gaines was arrested on an outstanding Misdemeanor Warrant and transported to the city jail.

“On the way to the jail Gaines became belligerent and began threatening harm to the victim of the original incident,” said Bulls. “Once at the jail, he made terroristic threats to officers.”

He was charged with Terroristic Threats against Peace Officer and Terrorostic Threats against Family or Household.

Earlier that day, around 1:43 a.m. Paris Police Officers were conducting a security check in the 10 block of E Hearne when they observed an individual in a vehicle.

“When the individual saw the officers he began reacting in a nervous manner,” said Bulls. 

Officers approached the individual and made contact with 32-year-old Quades Williams.

“Officers smelled the odor of narcotics in the vehicle and observed drugs inside the vehicle.”

During the subsequent investigation, Williams gave officers a false name.

He was charged with Unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, Possession of Controlled Substance, Failure to identify (Fugitive from Justice), Resisting Arrest, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He was also charged with two warrants from Delta County for Evading Arrest and Resisting Arrest.

Lastly, on Friday evening Officers attempted to stop vehicle for running a stop sign near the 2300 block of Bonham St.

“The driver refused to stop immediately and had to be pursued briefly until he pulled into a driveway of a residence in the area,” said Bulls. 

Officers made contact with 26-year-old William York, the driver of the vehicle.

York attempted to exit the vehicle several times and was told to stay in the vehicle.

“During the subsequent investigation, York was found to be in possession of a large amount of money as well as a controlled substance and paraphernalia used to measure and utilize the illegal substance.”

He was charged with Delivery of Controlled Substance (Drug-Free Zone) as well as the traffic offenses committed.
