Another day. Another phone scam.
Dozens of Lamar County citizens have reported phone calls from a person claiming to work for the social security office and advising them of illegal activity regarding their social security number.
However, the local Social Security office says this is just another scam and not to give out any personal information over the phone.
Paris Police Officer Curtis Garrett said, “Do not give any personal information out about yourself. Ask to make an appointment to go to the office to clear up the matter. Get a name and telephone number of the person that is calling and tell them that you will call them back in a little while that you are busy at that time. Any of these ideas will usually put them off their game and they will not cooperate with you.”
If you receive one of these scam calls or emails, do not provide them with any information. You should:
- Hang up immediately;
