Social media lives of UIL events are prohibited

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) has released information that it is against all UIL rules for any event or contest, athletic or academic, to be live-streamed.

The UIL has all rights to contests, and has granted rights to its broadcast partners. The rights to contests not selected by UIL broadcast partners may be sub-licensed to interested media outlets that meet certain criteria. The use of live streaming sites including Facebook Live, Instagram Live, Twitter Live and YouTube Live to stream the game is strictly prohibited and in direct violation of the UIL’s agreement with its broadcast partners.

For all athletic contests, Section 1208 of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules says:

No person or organization shall film, videotape, or otherwise make a visual recording of any athletic event or activity without prior written consent of the schools that are competing in the event. Any filming, videotaping, or other recording of an athletic contest may not obstruct the view of other spectators of the contest.

Live streaming is in direct violation of the UIL Rules and their agreement with their broadcast partners. DISD requests all spectators of events adhere to these rules. Violation of UIL rules could result in forfeiture of an event or sanctions placed on the team and eliminate all the hard work, effort, and accomplishments our students have worked so hard to obtain.
