Many residents in Lamar County have recently reported receiving a text message from an unknown number claiming the sender has a package pending for them. However, authorities are warning recipients that the text is, yet again, another scam making the rounds.
“[Recipient full name], we came across a package from February pending for you. Please assume ownership and confirm delivery here: [link included].”
The message sounds simple enough but could cause you many problems should you click on the link.
Authorities are cautioning those who receive the text message to NOT CLICK ON THE LINK and to block the number.
“Never give out any personal information on the phone, especially if you aren’t expecting a package or think its a scam,” said the Paris Police Department. “Don’t click the link, block the number and delete the message.”
How To Geek said, “You should never click on a link that you think is coming from a spammer. And if you do accidentally open the link, you should definitely never enter your credit card number or provide the site with personal information.”
“If you’ve become the target of these types of spam messages, we recommend blocking the number immediately. iPhone and Android users both have access to built-in spam-blocking tools that should help cut down on the number of fake messages,” they further said.
