A protest to free Brandon Gonzales, who has been charged with capital murder in the Greenville shooting, has been set for Saturday, Nov. 2.

Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood, whose Facebook page says he is a radical writer, pastor, theologian and activist based in Texas, organized the protest being held from 7 – 10 p.m. at the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office.

“Last Saturday, an unbelievable tragedy occurred in Greenville, Texas,” said Re. Dr. Hood on the Facebook event page. “After the shooting stopped, Kevin Berry, Jr. and Byron Craven were dead and countless others were injured. Though the Sheriff’s Department arrested Brandon Gonzales today, the real killer is still loose. It is not difficult to come to such a conclusion…for the exonerating facts are many…not the least of which is that a multitude of his friends have testified that he was with them.”

Gonzales was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with capital murder of multiple persons. He is being held on a $1 million bond.

Authorities said 23-year-old Kevin Barry Jr., of Dallas, and 23-year-old Byron Cravens Jr., of Arlington, were killed at the party, which is believed to have had over 750 in attendance, while another 12 were injured.

Of the 12 people injured, six were shot and six were trampled or hurt by glass, authorities said. As of Monday, five remained hospitalized, one in critical condition and four in good condition, Meeks said.

However, since Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks made the announcement of Gonzales arrest, many people have taken to social media protesting his innocence.

“In the midst of this growing injustice, we invite you to join us at the Hunt County Sheriff’s Department for a protest to demand the release of Brandon Gonzales,” said Rev. Dr. Hood.

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office was unavailable for comment at the time of press.
