Red River County is the latest Texas county to put a curfew in place in an effort to curtail activity in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency.
County Judge L.D. Williamson said the curfew will be in place effective immediately from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
“The sheriff advised me that we were having a problem with people congregating in the parking lots at car washes and convenience stores after 10 p.m. till the early hours of the morning. The only way to prevent that is a curfew,” said Williamson.
He said those caught out after curfew will be asked to leave and go home. Should they refuse or not stay at home, they could be arrested and face a class B misdemeanor which is punishable by up to 180 days in jail, a fine, or both.
For residents who work during those hours, if they are pulled over Williamson said to tell the police where they work and what hours so they can verify.
Currently, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Red River County.
