Prairiland FFA Participates at State FFA Convention

Prairiland’s Chapter FFA Officers and scholarship recipients attended the 90th annual Texas FFA Convention held July 9-13 in Fort Worth.

They worked to gain leadership, develop goals and plan for the upcoming year. Students were able to visit with colleges, businesses, and listen to many inspiring guest speakers and State FFA Officers speeches throughout the week. They worked to build teamwork relationships through various activities that will motivate and carry them throughout the year.

 

Ryan Dougherty Places 1st in State FFA Agriscience Fair

Ryan Dougherty, of the Prairiland FFA Chapter, placed first in the Texas FFA Agriscience Fair Competition.

Dougherty participated in the Power, Structural and Technical Systems category, Division 3. The Agriscience Fair fuses the traditional science fair with agriculture. FFA members conduct cucutting-edgegricultural research to compete in categories such as biochemistry and microbiology, environmental science, zoology, botany and engineering.

The Agriscience Fair was made possible by the ExxonMobil Corporation. Ryan won his division and will receive a $1000 scholarship from the Richard Wallrath Education Foundation. He advanced on to the National Ag Science Fair Competition

Ryan Dougherty Serves as Foundation Ambassador

Ryan Dougherty also served as a Texas FFA Foundation Ambassador at the 90th annual Texas FFA State Convention.

Dougherty was one of more than 60 FFA members selected to serve as a Foundation Ambassador. The Foundation Ambassador program serves as the official liaison to sponsors, special guests and dignitaries on behalf of the Texas FFA during the annual Texas FFA Convention.

Ambassadors went through a competitive application process, and once selected, they received an extensive two-day training specifically focused on donor relations, personal skills development and professional networking. Foundation Ambassadors studied the history of the Texas FFA Association, Texas FFA Foundation and the records of sponsors’ commitments to agricultural education and the Texas FFA.

Many Ambassadors were matched up with representatives from the Texas FFA Foundation’s corporate sponsors and individual donors, while others assisted in the logistics of the annual VIP Breakfast or helped organize sponsors’ availability for stage appearances during convention general sessions.

Wes Woodard Receives $20,000 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship

Wes Woodard was awarded a $20,000 scholarship, sponsored by Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  Woodard was awarded for his qualifications in academic achievement, leadership, SAE, FFA involvement, financial need, and personal interview. Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo awarded 70 $20,000 scholarships to FFA members across the state.

Jaden Borders Receives $10,000 Richard Wallrath Educational Foundation Scholarship

Jaden Borders was awarded a $10,000 scholarship, sponsored by Richard Wallrath Educational Foundation Scholarship. Borders was awarded for his qualifications in academic achievement, leadership, SAE, FFA involvement, financial need, and personal interview. The Richard Wallrath Educational Foundation awarded 35 $10,000 to FFA members across the state.

During the annual convention, more than $2 million in scholarships were awarded and more than 2,500 students were recognized on stage for their accomplishments at the state level.

Emily Newman as Courtesy Corps

Emily Newman served as a Courtesy Corps member at the 90th annual Texas FFA State Convention.

The Courtesy Corps is a team of student volunteers who handle many logistical functions at the nation’s largest state FFA convention.

The 90th annual Texas FFA Convention recorded approximately 12,000 members and guests. Members of the state’s largest agricultural youth leadership organization spent the week attending leadership workshops, participating in events and activities, being recognized for their achievements, and serving as the legislative body for the Texas FFA Association.

The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 123,000. FFA gives students the opportunity to apply practical classroom knowledge to real-world experiences through local, state and national competitions.
