Powderly Volunteer Fire Department has postponed its 2021 annual chili supper and live auction, and now offers two options the community can use to donate to the department. Originally held in February, the chili supper has been postponed for “safety and to ensure a healthy environment to our community members and residents of Lamar County as a result of COVID-19.”
“We are saddened that we must make this decision, as it is a tradition for many in Powderly and Lamar County,” PIO Randi Johnson said, “but the health and well-being of our wonderful community who continue to support us during these challenging times is our top priority.”
The postponed event does not have a rescheduled date, as the VFD will evaluate COVID-19’s impact during the upcoming summer.
“COVID-19 has made a significant impact on many organizations to brainstorm new and alternative ways to raise funds, and we at Powderly VFD are no different,” Johnson said. “So, at this time, we have two options for anyone who would like to donate to our fire department.”
The two options to donate to the fire department include:
- GoFundMe – the fire department will have a GoFundMe found on its Facebook page. Click here to access the department’s GoFundMe Fundraiser.
- Powderly VFD account at First Federal Community Bank – donations can be made to “Powderly VFD Fundraiser Account” at First Federal Community Bank.
“As we continue to channel and push through these unprecedented times, we want to continue to serve our community and Lamar County to the fullest capacity,” Johnson said. “We love what we do, and we cannot do it without the continued support of our community.”
