Paris Powerboat Grand Prix to be held Saturday and Sunday at Lake Crook
The Southern Drag Boat Association announced its return to Lamar County for the upcoming Paris Powerboat Grand Prix. The race will be held Saturday and Sunday at Lake Crook, but spectators will not be allowed to attend due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The racers will be competing for double points and trophies. Registration for the competition is mandatory, and the deadline to register is today. One can register online at sdbaracing.com or email sdbaregistrar@gmail.com. SDBA Series Administrator Stacey Smith said that racers must include the number of crew members in respective pits along with any additional crew bands purchases upon registration, as necessary. The pits will open at noon Thursday, while tech opens at 9 a.m. Friday with a driver’s meeting to follow in the evening.
Along with new Pro Comp Flat and Pro Jet Classes being added into the mix, the SDBA is teaming up with the City of Paris to serve breakfast and lunch on both racing days for everyone at the track. In addition to this, fuel drums will be available for purchase. According to the SDBA, a $25 drum deposit is required, while NHRA Spec Methanol 54-gallon drums cost $170 and $175 per unit with and without synthetic lube, respectively.
Volunteers are needed for the event, and Smith said that each boat are required to provide one person per day for an hour to help on the ramps to assist in putting boats in and out of the water. Competitors traveling from out of town cab purchase block room rates for specific local hotels with the use of the block code, “SDBA.” The Hampton Inn ($99 king or double queen plus tax), Days Inn ($70 king/$75 double queen plus tax), La Quinta Inn ($82 or double queen, $92 suite plus tax), Baymont Inn ($49 king or double queen plus tax) and Paris Inn & Suites ($69.99 king or double queen plus tax) are the participating hotels.
