Fifty-five Paris ISD students competed in the virtual global issues competition May 4 – 7, 2020. The following students placed at the state competition and will advance to the first-ever Virtual International Conference in June.
In individual Global Issues Problem Solving (GIPS), Zahra Tapia brought home 2nd place in the Junior Division. Also in the Junior Division, Caroline Gillem placed 1st in Scenario Writing as well as 1st place in Scenario Performance. Both students are coached by Debb Fleming.
In the team GIPS, three teams will advance to the Virtual International Conference. In the Senior Division, the team of Grace Perry, Mckenzie Carlton, Nicole Tijerina, and Aubry Scott placed fifth. The Senior Division is coached by Brent Wilburn and Dr. Janet Dickey. In the Middle Division, the team of Brody Holleman, Carter Benson, Shravya Singh, and Sophia Hamer placed third. The team of Sophie Stone, Kate Hoog, Abby Perry, and Anna Lehenbauer placed first. Both Middle Division teams are coached by Jill Stone.
Coach Jill Stone said, “We are so impressed by the work ethic of these students. It is a privilege to coach children that are not only driven but adaptable. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish.”
